Alto saxophonist Willie Bays, 16, lives in Olympia and is a sophomore at Olympia, High School.  Growing up in a musical family, he started playing flute and other instruments at an early age.  He took up the saxophone at age 12.  He has played with many local artist around Olympia, Seattle and attended the Port Townsend Jazz Workshop where he worked with Terrel Stafford.  In 2017 Willie was chosen - out of hundreds of applicants from around the US - to be one of 20 members of the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, a project of the Monterey Jazz Festival. As a member of this Orchestra, Willie spent the summer touring and performing in the eastern US.  The group performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Toronto Jazz Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival.  The tour culminated with a performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival where Willie was a featured soloist.

If you attended our concert with Anton Schwartz and Josh Nelson, you heard Willie when Anton asked him if he wanted to play with him.  After that concert Anton said, " Do everything you can to support that kid - he's got something."  So here we are.
